GOOD NEWS - You may all remember Helen, one of our sponsored newcomers from Eritrea. Helen moved to Calgary last year to go to school and is still there working at a nursing home while she continues her classes.
Helen came to us in 2020 and has been waiting for her daughter, Heldana, to come from Ethiopia. In the middle of Covid and then a civil war in Ethiopia, Helen lost touch with Heldana for several months. Helen has just received good news - Heldana has been issued a Permanent Resident Visa and will finally be coming to Canada! Immigration does not move quickly, so it may still be several months or a year before Heldana arrives, so continued prayers are appreciated. CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS NEEDED – One of the Eritrean families that we sponsored is looking for Christmas decorations, this year. They have a tree but are missing the trimmings. If you have any decorations to spare, please contact Karen Bethune at: [email protected].
We received an update from John Buckley of the Buckley Ensemble. John was pleased to report “around” $4,500.00 was raised and that he was very happy with the results. We will let you know the details of their Christmas fundraiser when they are shared. In support of Hampton Helping Hands for Displaced Ukrainians (HHHDU), we will be sponsoring a fundraiser in our church Wednesday, August 28th at 7:30 p.m. The Buckley Ensemble, well known and liked, has been entertaining the Greater Saint John area for over 28 years.
Tickets are available in the foyer of St. Alphonsus, before and after Mass, from John Buckley (506) 721-6774, Brenda Renaud, the parish office or at the door and from HHHDU members. Cost: $20.00 for adults; $10.00 for students. Ticket sales have been brisk. Don’t miss out. REFUGEE SPONSORSHIP – Good news! Another of our sponsored families will be arriving soon! Gebremedhn Gebremskel (we will call him “Gary”), his wife, Gebriel, and three children, a girl, Afreta and two boys, Noah and Heseina. Afreta is six years old; Noah is nine years old and Heseina is twelve years old. They will be arriving in Saint John at midnight on May 2nd.

CategoriesBOTTLE DRIVE - the parish supports our refugees through various means, one of those being an on-going bottle drive. If you have bottles, cans, etc. you'd like to donate, you can drop them off at Hampton Recycling, located at 401 William Bell Dr. in Hampton. Let them know the returnables are for Blessed Trinity Parish and the recycling centre will send all monies raised to our office. |
