ST. ANTHONY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH - Upham, NB (Original Church)
Infrastructure Improvements 2016 - St. Anthony's Parish Council
St. Anthony’s has been serving the Upham area for well over a century. Consecrated in 1897, the church went through major renovations from 1994 through 1997 with the addition of a new basement, foyer, vestry, washrooms and kitchen. In 2014, a fresh coat of paint, upstairs and down brightened up the building immensely and a new roof kept us dry. While these improvements have been well received by the Parish Council, the heating bill had been met with less enthusiasm. The 100+ year old windows were not very efficient.
The congregation was asked if they would be willing to help defray the cost of installing 6 new windows by donating money towards the project. We’re proud to say our members stepped up greatly, paying for the entire project (over $10,000), without dipping into parish funds. Five of the 6 windows purchased were dedicated to parishioner family member with the 6th dedicated to Father Kevin Barry, our spiritual leader for over 20 years. Small dedication plaques were installed below the new windows to honour family & friends of the church.
While the warmth of friendship and fellowship keeps this building toasty during Mass and other gatherings, it’s nice to know that our new windows will not be letting the warmth of the oil furnace escape the building too quickly.

Prior to 2016
In 1994 major renovations were made to St. Anthony's church. These renovations along with previous projects from past years were completed by parishioners, many friends, and community benefactors. The renovations included a new sanctuary with a new basement hall beneath it. The new addition also saw a foyer, vestry, and washrooms added. New siding for the church was donated as well as crushed rock and grading for the parking area. Other new work included floor covering, new electrical, revitalized woodwork, and interior painting. All of this was completed by end of 1997. The spirit of St. Anthony's parishioners both present and past continues to sustain and maintain their community's faith history and development. |
