MASS FOR THOSE LIVING WITH CANCER – The date for the next monthly Mass for Those Living with Cancer, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, is Tuesday, February 18, at 6:30 pm. Anointing of the Sick will be offered.
WORLD DAY OF PRAYER (WDP) – We will be hosting the WDP, this year. Mass will be at St. Alphonsus Church, Friday, March 7th at 11:00 a.m., followed by lunch. I will remind you as we get closer to the date. For now, you can mark it on your calendar.
Jubilee 2025 Pilgrimages to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception - The Cathedral, a symbol of unity and beacon of hope for our diocese has been designated as a special place of pilgrimage during the Jubilee Year. As we celebrate the 170th year of our beloved mother church, Bishop Riesbeck has invited all the faithful to make special pilgrimages to the Cathedral during the Jubilee Year. In the coming weeks, parishes will be contacted with special invitations to make a pilgrimage to the Cathedral on designated First Saturdays throughout the year for the celebration of Mass, Adoration, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, veneration of relics, historical tours, and special Jubilee prayers and reflections. While certain parishes will be highlighted, every pilgrimage Mass is open to anyone that would like to attend. The first pilgrimage day will be on Saturday, February 1 for the Cathedral community and will begin at 10:00 am with a brief introduction to the Jubilee Year and being a Pilgrim of Hope, followed by Confession, private devotions, Adoration, and a Celebration of the Pilgrimage Mass at 12:00 noon. This will be a year of many blessings meeting our brothers and sisters from around our diocese. Weekend Retreat – Enkindle! Fanning to Flame Our Witness to Hope. Someone somewhere is waiting for your testimony to set the spark of faith aflame in their heart! But have you ever asked: What exactly is “the kerygma”? How can I express the Good News of God’s love in my own words? How do I share what Jesus has done for me in an effective way? How do I overcome my hesitation to be a witness to the hope I have in Jesus? Join us for a weekend of teaching, prayer, reflection, and fellowship, with Mass and Adoration, as we learn to share our experience of the saving love of Jesus with others as faithful witnesses to Hope. February 21 - 23, 2025, at Villa Madonna Retreat House, facilitated by Jim Anderson. Weekend in-house retreat fee: $295 (commuter rate: $165). In his proclamation of the Jubilee Year 2025, “Hope Does Not Disappoint,” Pope Francis expresses the desire that, “For everyone, may the Jubilee be a moment of genuine, personal encounter with the Lord Jesus, the ‘door’ of our salvation, whom the Church is charged to proclaim always, everywhere and to all as ‘our hope’.” In response to this encouragement, this year’s Men of Faith retreat will explore the theme of hope with an emphasis on encountering and sharing our life in Christ Our Hope where he is present in our world, particularly in the Eucharist and the Sacraments, the Church, the proclamation of the Word, and in the poor and marginalized. All men in the Diocese of Saint John ages 19+ yrs are invited to participate in a time of teaching, prayer and reflection, conversation, and fraternal fellowship with Mass and Adoration, Friday, March 14 to Sunday, March 16, 2025 at Villa Madonna Retreat House. Full retreat, partial retreat, and commuter options are available to accommodate as many men as possible, though space is limited. Beginning this Sunday, January 12th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Francois de Sales Church, 77 Ragged Point Road. Sessions continue every second week. DYING WITH CHRIST LIVING WITH HOPE: The Christian Medical and Dental Association of Canada (CMDA) is inviting you to join them for the three-video DYING WITH CHRIST LIVING WITH HOPE series. This series is offered:
~ Thursdays - Feb. 20th, 27th and Mar. 6th at 1:00 p.m.
Through the videos, the CMDA is seeking to demystify death and the dying process, making way for a new approach to end of life questions. The discussion, led by theologians and healthcare professionals will give timeless perspectives on suffering, grief, dying and our duty of care, hoping you will discover that when we make a commitment to die with Christ, we can truly live with hope. LIFE IN THE SPIRIT SEMINAR STARTED JAN 23 – Join the diocese for the Life in the Spirit Seminar to experience the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives! The Life in the Spirit Seminar is a series of 8 sessions focusing on deepening a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through the Sacraments of the Catholic Church. It is designed to help us open ourselves more deeply to the power of the Holy Spirit in our own lives and to stir up the gifts of the Holy Spirit given at Baptism and strengthened in Confirmation. Sessions will take place every second Thursday (next session February 6th) at the Maranatha Prayer Group meeting, 7:30 pm in the Cathedral Chapel, and will include praise, talks, small group sharing and fellowship. Registration is not required but encouraged for preparation of series materials and snacks. Franciscan “LEAD” - LEAD is for high-school aged youth who are passionate about their Catholic faith, active in their youth groups, and ready to step up to the next level of leadership through evangelization and discipleship training. - February 7 Suzanne Coffey - presentation that will provide a wide variety of useful websites and materials to assist seniors age in their own home and live a healthy productive life.
- February 14 Jacqueline Perry and Sonya Ducey of NBCC – many informal caregivers of seniors and seniors feel anxious and unprepared to age at home To help and support them in successfully navigating services to age in place, NBCC has developed student-infused workshops teaching practical skills for accessing, navigating, and organizing care and services for seniors of New Brunswick.
- February 21 Dawn O’Dell, Community Program Coordinator with Canadian Mental Health Assoc. of NB – Depression in Older Adults and Seniors. Dawn will examine feeling good as you age and the causes of depression in older adults and seniors. We look at ways to help cope, self-help as well as mental health services available in your communities.

- Life After Loss: Survivors of Suicide starting March 11 to May 13 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. A ten-week education program for individuals who have lost a loved one to suicide.
- Engaging Caregivers in Recovery starting March 13 to May 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. A ten-week education and support program designed to help people who are caring for a loved one with mental illness.
- Understanding Anxiety & Panic Disorder starting March 19 to May 7 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. An eight-week education program designed to help people who have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety and / or panic disorder.
