WEE ONES BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN – It’s not too late to participate in the Sussex Pregnancy and New Parents Centre’s annual Wee Ones Campaign. The Centre relies on the donations collected during this campaign to continue its ministry to expectant teens, women and families that are facing an unplanned pregnancy and new parents in need of parenting resources. I have placed additional bottles in the foyer at St. Alphonsus. THANK YOU TO ALL THE PARISHIONERS THAT HAVE ALREADY PICKED UP A BOTTLE. This worthy campaign runs until Father’s Day, June 18th. For those that picked up their bottle last Sunday and did not sign the sheet, please take a minute to add your name to the list. At the end of the campaign, this list will assist me when I collect the bottles. Of course, the centre would willingly accept an envelope with your name and address written on the outside. Just place the envelope in the Collection Basket. Envelopes available on side table at St. Alphonsus.

PENTECOST VIGIL: “When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.” (Acts 2:1-2) There will be a Pentecost Vigil on Saturday, May 27, from 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (Virgin’s Chapel). Come follow in the footsteps of the disciples at Pentecost and call on the Holy Spirit to pour out his gifts in power over our diocese. There will be at time of praise and worship, talks by Bishop Christian Riesbeck, and an opportunity for fellowship. All are invited.
PENTECOST MISSION - On May 29-31, Bishop Riesbeck will preach a three-day Pentecost Mission on the theme of, "The Great Commission - Diving into Jesus' call to "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations."
This Mission will help equip people first to KNOW Jesus, to GROW with him as his disciples and in community with one another, and finally to GO to the peripheries, spreading the Good News to all we meet and inviting people into a life-changing relationship with Jesus and his Church. Evening missions will take place from 7:00 pm-9:00 pm at St. Dunstan's Church in Fredericton. Each session will begin with Mass, with a reconciliation service offered on Tuesday and Commissioning and Healing Prayer on Wednesday. Refreshments and fellowship will follow each session.

STEUBENVILLE ATLANTIC CONFERENCE - Registration for Steubenville Atlantic closes on June 7th, 2023. Do you have a child, grandchild, niece, nephew, cousin, friend who is between the ages of 14-18 whose faith you want to grow? Invite them to go to the conference! Steubenville Atlantic is held on the campus of Dalhousie University in Halifax for youth ages 14-18 from July 7 – 9, 2023. Last year over 300 young people and youth leaders experienced a weekend like no other. This year’s theme is Refuge based on Matthew 11.28: Come to me, all you who labour and are burdened and I will give you rest.
Between school, friends, family responsibilities, and maybe a part-time job - plus so many other things - we think this year’s theme will resonate with many young people. Cost per youth is $280.00. (Transportation from various pickup spots in our diocese provided.) For more information contact Patricia Lee at catechesis@dioceseofsaintjohn.org or call 506-627-6465.

COLOURING SUPPLIES FOR OUR “WEE” VISITORS – If you are in the company of wee visitors, we have some art supplies available, if a little distraction is desired. The package contains colouring pens, sheets of paper and pictures to be coloured. They are available (only 3) in the foyer of St. Alphonsus. After Mass, please return to the table outside the office and I will ensure they are sanitized for their next visit.
HEATING – Our four new heat pumps are operational. Until we are accustomed to how they work, given our unusual requirements, please do not use the wall mounted thermostats that operate our oil fed furnace. The oil fed furnace is now our “back up” system, if needed. If we were to loose power for an extended period of time, the oil furnace can be operated with the help of a generator. For your information, the lowest temperature possible with our units is 16 degrees. We will be experimenting to find out what temperature is a happy medium for all. Please bear with us.
DIAL-A-RIDE, FUNDY REGION - The purpose of this program is to help residents with barriers to transportation get to their needed services, such as medical appointments and food banks or grocery shopping. Since the program is volunteer-driven they rely on volunteers to make this possible. Currently, they have a number of clients who need help with affordable transportation in the KV - Hampton areas. This seems to be one of the hardest areas to find volunteers. COVID protocols (masks) are enforced for both the client and driver – no exceptions.
Clients that use this service pay a minimal fee ($0.41/km) and drivers are reimbursed for their km's at $0.45/km. For shorter distances, a flat fee of $5.00, one way or $10.00 round trip, may be charged. This is a relatively new service. They are finding it difficult to recruit suitable volunteers and are often not able to fulfill all of their ride requests. This past month alone, over 100 ride requests were denied due to no volunteer being available. If you can volunteer to be a driver, contact Annie Dunn, Regional Transportation Director, Fundy Region Community Network Inc. at (506) 609-7433. Additional information about this group can be found on their website: www.nbcommunitytransit.com. If you know of someone who may need to use this service, call Charlotte (dispatch) at (506) 349-8551 to book a ride.
~~We are invited to pray for the Holy Father and all those involved in this historic journey of healing, reconciliation and hope.~~
